HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

We are very excited for our Thanksgiving break. Today in school we created some beautiful turkies by following directions. We had to read the instructions step by step to create them. We did a wonderful job.

School out at 1:40 on Wednesday Nov. 26th

I hope you all had a great weekend. Rocks have been pouring into our classroom for our rock unit. Just waiting for a few more students to bring their rocks. Once all rocks are here, we will be doing some experiments and writing about rocks. For spelling during this short week the students will be doing different sorts with some of the word wall words that they have learned so far this year. I will not be collecting green folders on Wednesday. There will be no new word wall words this week, but we will be reviewing the ones that we have learned and doing some testing on them to see if students are remembering them. Sorry I haven't gotten any new pictures up. There will be some soon. I want to thank all of you that take the time to look at the blog often. It makes it worth my time to do this.

SEP's were very successful. Almost every student had a parent or grandparent come to their meeting. Thank you to those of you that made the time to come out for a quick visit. This week for computers we will be practicing using the home row keys on our keyboards. Remind your student that fingers should always find their way back home! a, s, d, f, j, k, l, and ; Of course, thumbs will always be resting on the space bar. Also, posture is very important when typing on a keyboard. Our reading skill for the week is Making Connections. Spelling review is over and students will be bringing home their new spelling sorts this week.We will be focusing on rocks and their properties and uses this week. Your child will have homework. The assignment is to find their special rock. If you can take them somewhere that has a variety of rocks (not store bought), that would be wonderful, but if not, that's OK too! In math we will be learning how to add and subtract 2 digit numbers and working on story problems. Watch for math homework that I may be sending home if it doesn't get finished. Some students have difficulties doing story problems and a little extra help from home will be helpful. For a little history, students will be learning a little bit about the first Thanksgiving. Next week sometime they will be bringing home books that they are going to make in class. If you know of anybody that is an EXPERT at rocks that would like to come in and teach the class, let me know. We would LOVE to have a visitor!

SEP week is here!

This week is time to meet with your child's teacher again. Be sure to come during your scheduled time or call the school to reschedule your appointment. School will be out at 1:15 each day, including Friday. We will be studying word wall words (sight words) this week, but for spelling we will be doing a review. Your child should still bring their spelling folder to school on Friday with their best spelling work inside the folder. Thursday we will be performing at Lins and all of you are welcome to meet us there at 11:00 a.m. We will be singing 3 songs at the front of the store.

November!

October flew by like a witch on a broomstick and here we are in November already! Some of you may have noticed that the weekly newsletter failed to make it home today; probably because of the sneak attack that the new month brought! I am cutting back on the newsletters as much as possible in order to save time and TREES! For the month of November your students will be doing many exciting things! We will be doing a few more nutrition and health lessons as well as citizenship lessons because of the elections that we are all participating in (hopefully). Your students will also dive deeper into become better writers and readers! Many reading skills will be introduced and practiced this month and we will be working harder on writing a GREAT STORY
