Happy Halloween

What a crazy and exciting day! I told some of the children that I would have nightmares all night tonight because they were all so SCARY! One students response: "No you won't! You'll be trick or treating!" If only I could trick or treat ALL NIGHT LONG!! Yeah! We had a great day even though it was so short. I hope that everybody has a safe and happy Halloween!

Current Events

We FINALLY received our book orders today! Unfortunately, there were three orders that had no names on and so I couldn't send the books home with their owners. If you ordered books from our last book order but didn't receive them today, please let me know. Be as detailed as possible (tell me which books are yours or how much money you spent etc)because I have several students claiming to have ordered books.
Also, Friday is Halloween! Students are allowed to BRING a costume to school with them. During lunch they can put their costumes on and then participate in the parade that will take place at about 12:45. Families are encouraged to come and watch their children in the parade. Remember to "Say BOO to Drugs!"

RED RIBBON WEEK

This week we were really busy getting ready for red ribbon week, learning about healthy choices, participating in the pumpkin walk, and receiving all that "DOUGH"! Students should have brought home a note describing all of the events that will be taking place next week for red ribbon week. Monday the students will be receiving their red ribbons that they will be encouraged to wear throughout the week (I may even keep the ribbons at school so that everybody has one to wear each day). Tuesday: wear slippers to "Give Drugs the Slip". Wednesday: wear crazy socks to "Sock It To Drugs". Thursday: wear sneakers to "Don't Let Drugs Sneak Up On You". And Friday: participate in the costume parade to remember to "Say BOO To Drugs!".




Today, we were going to take a class photo to put on our classroom door but with all of the busy events taking place, time slipped away quickly and before I knew it, it was time to go home!

So far I have received 5 permission slips, all of which have given permisson to post photos! I hope the rest will come in tomorrow.

This is the picture of the bulletine board that is out in the hall. I was so happy to see what the kids did with their work and we had many compliments on our creativity.
Just imagine!! These kids are only in 2nd grade!! Apparently this child's autumn eyes behold a beautiful pumpkin patch.
We really enjoy our little "haunted corner" this year. Over the last couple of weeks we have been learning different blends and word families . . . some that tie in to the season, and the student's have been able to make words using those blends and word families, write the words on spiders, and attach them to the web. Shown in this picture is the blend " sp ".
Below is where we spend a good portion of our morning during our group meeting. We change the calendar, count by 2's, 5's, 10's, and 1's! Learn number patterns, sing songs about months, seasons, and days of the week. We explore coins and count the days we have been in school . . . which teaches us PLACE VALUE!! We share our daily news (and edit teacher's bad spelling and grammar!). It sounds like this is where the party takes place!

Parent's, remember to sign the permission slip so that I can post more pictures of our class doing what it does best . . . learning! We will be taking a class photo this week to put on our door for Red Ribbon week, and I would like to place it on the blog. Students whose parents give permission will also be posted for families to see on our blog.

Off to a SLOW start . . . but definately on its way!

I'm slowly getting this blog up and running, and if you are viewing it right now, then your student has brought home the newsletter that tells you how to get here.
Last week, the students wrote wonderful poems about Autumn and drew beautiful pictures to illustrate them. I'm hoping to get a picture of the bulletine board up so that you can see what they have done. This class is a very creative 2nd grade class and I can't wait to show them off!
This week we are starting our new spelling rotation schedule. Students should still be doing their homework.
Next week is Red Ribbon week and the students are learning different ways to make healthy choices. We will be decorating our classroom door for Red Ribbon week, so stop by and check it out.

New Communication!

For the month of October, our class will be learning about nutrition, healthy choices, safety, and drug awareness.. We will also be learning how to write descriptive and narrative paragraphs. We are continuously working on becoming a TEAM because "Together, Everyone Achieves More!"
My goal for this blog is to get some pictures posted for parents to see. I do not plan on taking pictures of individual students to post UNLESS I have written permission from parents/guardians. I have this blog set up so that it won't pop up when people search the web, and the only way to get to it is to type in the exact web address. A letter will be coming home for you to sign and return if you give me permission to post pictures of your child doing work in the classroom.
