Time for SEP's Again

This week we will be getting out of school at 1:15 every day because of SEP meetings. Please remember to keep your scheduled time (or contact me if you need to change your time). Come to the meeting prepared to discuss any concerns you may have about your child and his/her education. We will be setting some goals to help your child graduate from 2nd grade on grade level.
Next week (March 2 - 6) is Read Across America week. We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday by doing different reading activities throughout the week. Watch for more information to come home regarding these activities.
Dance Festival is quickly approaching (March 12th) and we are looking for a couple of volunteers to help sew some poodle skirts that we are making for the girls to wear. All the material will be cut and ready to go, we just need a little help sewing. If you would like to do this, contact me as soon as possible so that we can get the costumes finished in advance.
Spring pictures are coming up! Tuesday March 2nd has been set aside for Spring Picture day AND Blankets of Hope day. This will be the last sewing day for the service learning project, so come and join us!

Manners Tea

I was impressed with the way your children dressed . . . AND smelled today! I was so excited to see the kids come in looking so nice. One of the boys mentioned that his "mom put some of dad's perfume on". The room smelled wonderful and all of the kids were in a nice happy spirit. The tea party was wonderful!




Before the exciting tea party, we also enjoyed the day by making cards, delivering Valentine's, graphing conversation hearts, and writing about what love is.


But, the highlight of the day was definitely the tea party. Thanks to the parents that donated for the event. You were more than generous and I couldn't have expected more than what was received. Thank you for caring. You are all great!

Love is in the Air

The day started off with the students counting their coin stamps and trading in for "real" play money to purchase craft items to make their Valentine mail bags!They were all excited to see what they could afford to buy and it was a blast!


When most of us had finished our bags, we went outside for a beautiful, "springy" warm recess. While a group of boys enjoyed a game of soccer . . .

the girls were enjoying a little jump rope together!

Feel the Chill!

Today was quite chilly, don't you think? I knew first thing this morning that the students would not be going out for recess. Oddly enough, moments before recess time came around, the snow started falling like crazy! After only about 2 minutes, the ground was covered.

Our class has had a guest speaker (Mr. Lowe) come in every Tuesday for the last few weeks and he will be coming in for a few more weeks. He's been teaching us how to get along with eachother and how to be in friendships that are not "dangerous". We've learned a few games and have had a lot of fun! Thanks Mr. Lowe for caring about us so much.


Blankets of Hope: sewing day is Tuesday, February 10, 2009 right after school. There will be a short presentation in Ms. Vari's room and then on to sewing blankets for men and women across seas. Student's will need to be picked up at about 4:45.
This week, we are doing many activities to prepare for Valentine's. News was sent home to explain each activity that we will be doing in class. I personally can't wait for the "Family Love History" show and tell and the Manners Tea Party! It's going to be fun!
